Maintenance of Flow-Through UV Sterilizers
2022-08-26
Flow-through ultraviolet sterilizer It boasts high irradiation intensity stability and a sterilization lifespan of over 12,000 hours. It also features a high-transmittance quartz glass tube with a light transmittance rate of no less than 92%, and notably includes an audible and visual alarm system that activates upon lamp breakage. So, do you know the operational characteristics of ultraviolet sterilizers and how to properly maintain them? Let’s find out together below!
Operating characteristics of flow-through ultraviolet sterilizers:
First, this disinfection method boasts a relatively fast disinfection rate and high operational efficiency. Importantly, it does not alter the physicochemical properties of the water, does not impart any odor to the water, and eliminates the need to add disinfectants to the water, thus avoiding the generation of secondary pollutants. Moreover, this equipment is relatively simple to operate, making it easy to manage and reducing the physical labor required of workers—further enhancing safe production conditions. After being irradiated by the ultraviolet sterilizer, microorganisms in the water undergo significant changes: since nucleic acid molecules in nucleoproteins are the primary constituents of bacterial and viral life, they absorb large amounts of ultraviolet radiation, leading to denaturation and disruption of their physiological activity. The absorbed energy reaches a lethal level, causing massive bacterial death. However, given that the sterilization efficiency of ultraviolet light is wavelength-dependent, ultraviolet light within the 250–260 nm wavelength range exhibits particularly high sterilization effectiveness. In particular, after UV treatment, the water quality can meet the national hygienic standards for drinking water.
Maintenance of Flow-Through UV Sterilizers:
1. Regular inspections are required to ensure the proper operation of the UV lamp.
2. The sterilizer can be used continuously for 9,000 hours. After one year, the UV lamp tube needs to be replaced to ensure a high sterilization rate. It’s also important to note that the UV light must remain on at all times; if we repeatedly turn it on and off, the lifespan of the lamp tube will be significantly shortened.
3. When replacing the UV sterilizer lamp, you need to unplug the lamp holder and then remove the UV lamp. Especially when installing a new lamp tube, be careful not to touch the quartz glass of the new lamp tube with your fingers, as any fingerprints or smudges could impair the penetration of the sterilizing UV light. Likewise, handle the lamp tube with great care when inserting it into the stainless steel sterilizer.
