What should be noted when using UV disinfectors in different industry applications? (Municipal, swimming pools, aquaculture, water purification, industrial wastewater)

Ultraviolet disinfectors are widely used in the water disinfection industry. Depending on the characteristics of the water quality, ultraviolet disinfectors differ in both their structural design and functional features. We can briefly illustrate this with reference to the following industries:
1. Seawater Disinfection: Seawater disinfection is primarily aimed at the marine aquaculture industry and the ballast water treatment industry for ships. Since seawater contains a high concentration of chloride ions, which can cause crystalline corrosion on the welds of metal components, when using ultraviolet (UV) disinfectors for seawater disinfection, it’s essential to pay close attention to corrosion-resistant treatment processes. The Jilu Cheng brand UV disinfectors specifically designed for seawater disinfection employ a two-stage anti-corrosion process involving PVC surface grinding and stainless steel secondary protection. Lu Cheng Company has specially developed a set of PVC molds tailored for the seawater disinfection sector. The PVC-based UV disinfectors adopt a modular design principle, allowing them to be effectively combined in series or parallel configurations, thereby ensuring efficient water disinfection while maintaining optimal disinfection performance. The specialized PVC molds not only simplify the manufacturing process and enhance production efficiency but also significantly reduce the risk of leakage during the connection of PVC fittings. Additionally, these molds make it easier for customers to repair and maintain the UV disinfection equipment. For UV disinfectors featuring stainless steel chambers, it’s crucial to apply corrosion-resistant treatments to the welds. Based on continuous practical testing and experience in the application of UV disinfectors for seawater disinfection, Lu Cheng’s environmental technology specialists have adopted a sophisticated process that involves welding with 316L stainless steel and performing comprehensive internal and external anti-corrosion treatments. The anti-corrosion coating is made from a specially formulated material that is transparent, odorless, and free from any harmful substance leaching. This ensures effective corrosion resistance while simultaneously enhancing the disinfection and sterilization efficacy.
Second: Applications in the Pool Water Disinfection Industry: As people’s living standards improve, swimming and fitness during leisure time have become a trendy form of exercise. Consequently, ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of pool recirculating water has become a critical task for pool managers. Common methods for disinfecting pool recirculating water include chemical dosing, ozone disinfection, ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, and copper-silver ion disinfection. Among these, UV disinfection systems have gained widespread adoption due to their advantages such as low initial investment, convenient operation and maintenance, small footprint, and excellent disinfection performance. For pool recirculating water disinfection, two types of UV lamps can be used: low-pressure high-intensity quartz lamps or medium-pressure UV lamps. Among these, medium-pressure UV disinfection systems stand out for their smaller footprint and higher sterilization efficiency. Users can select the appropriate system based on their specific needs.
Third: In the drinking water disinfection industry, ultraviolet (UV) disinfectors have become a well-established and widely adopted technology for disinfecting water quality in small-scale water treatment plants, secondary pressurized water supply systems in residential communities, purified water plants, and food and beverage factories. UV disinfectors feature easy installation, a small footprint, and convenient maintenance. While ensuring effective disinfection, they also help reduce personnel costs.
Four: Wastewater Disinfection Industry: Whether it’s domestic wastewater, industrial wastewater, or wastewater from aquaculture and slaughterhouses, all such effluents must undergo treatment followed by disinfection to meet discharge or reuse standards. For small-scale wastewater treatment plants, flow-through UV disinfection systems are typically employed, whereas large-scale wastewater treatment facilities generally opt for modular UV disinfection systems. Given the relatively high concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus compounds, and suspended solids in wastewater treatment processes, it is recommended that UV disinfection systems used in the wastewater disinfection industry be equipped with features such as online cleaning capability, UV intensity monitoring function, automatic liquid-level control, remote control functionality, and fault alarm system.
5. Depending on the geographical region, ultraviolet disinfection units employ different protective measures. Since the south is humid and hot while the north is cold, it’s essential to take into account the heat dissipation requirements for the distribution boxes and electronic ballasts of UV disinfection units.
